Courier-Journal Highlights Health Reforms
A September 16 editorial in The Courier-Journal highlighted the provisions of the new federal health reform law relating to health insurance that will take effect on September 23, including:
- No pre-existing condition exclusions for children under the age of 19
- No rescissions of coverage if the policyholder becomes sick
- No lifetime limits on coverage
- Adult children can be covered under their parent’s health insurance policy until age 26
- Preventive services will have no co-pays or deductible in new health plans
The editorial noted that “the upcoming changes address some of the most egregious insurance practices of the past, which penalized policy-holders for actually using what they had paid for.”
