Federal Health Reform Legislation—Impact on Kentucky

The Urban Institute estimates that almost 200,000 additional Kentuckians will enroll in Medicaid under the provisions of the health reform bill recently passed by the U. S. House of Representatives.

Under the provisions of the Affordable Health Care for America Act, Medicaid eligibility would be expanded to 150% of the federal poverty level ($33,075/year for a family of four).

Assuming that about half of the 378,048 newly eligible uninsured Kentuckians actually enroll in Medicaid, the Urban Institute estimates that 192,899 additional Kentuckians will sign up for the program.
