KCHIP web site launched

A new Web site and toll-free number launched on November 3 allows parents to get applications and other information about the Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP).

The launch is part of Governor Beshear’s initiative announced in September to make it easier for Kentucky's families to take advantage of KCHIP, the program that provides health coverage for children in low-income families. While about 53,000 children are enrolled in KCHIP, a report issued by Kentucky Voices for Health in August estimated that an additional 62,500 children are eligible but are not enrolled.

The Governor’s initiative will streamline the application process and make it easier for families to get information about the program. In addition to the new Web site and toll-free number, families may now mail in applications instead of going to a state social services office in person.

Children whose parents earn up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level -- about $42,000 for a family of four -- are eligible for KCHIP.
