Kentucky Voices for Health Applauds KY Smoke Free Efforts
In an effort to build a healthier Kentucky for everyone, Kentucky Voices for Health promotes comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation programs including statewide and local efforts to create smoke-free communities. The coalition commends Rep. Westrom for her leadership in raising the awareness of this issue with the Kentucky General Assembly.
“Reducing exposure to second-hand smoke will save lives and lower health care costs in Kentucky,” stated Jodi Mitchell, Executive Director of Kentucky Voices for Health. “All Kentuckians have the right to breathe clean, smoke-free air in public places and at work.”
Exposure to second-hand smoke causes cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness and contributes to many other health issues, the treatment of which results in escalated health care costs. Smoke free laws protect the health of all Kentuckians without harming business in bars, restaurants and other hospitality venues.
Kentucky Voices for Health is a broad coalition of over 150 organizations working to improve Kentuckians’ health and health care coverage. The coalition’s leadership team is composed of representatives from AARP Kentucky, Advocacy Action Network, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Catholic Conference of Kentucky, Covering Kentucky Kids and Families, Kentucky Council of Churches, Kentucky Equal Justice Center, the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center, and Kentucky Youth Advocates. Kentucky Voices for Health receives grant funding from the Public Welfare Foundation through the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.
