New Web Site Highlights Federal Health Reform Implementation in Kentucky

Kentuckians now have an official online source of information on the state’s implementation of the new federal health reform law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  A new web site launched by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, http://healthcarereform.ky.gov, provides citizens with a wide range of information about the new law and efforts being undertaken by state government to implement it.

Features of the new web site include:

·       Detailed background information on the new law, including a summary as well as the full text of the legislation;

·       A complete list of federal grants awarded to Kentucky under the Affordable Care Act, as well as those for which the state has applied but not yet been awarded;

·       Regular updates on state government actions to implement the new law in Kentucky (visitors to the site can also sign up to receive updates via email);

·       State news releases on health reform related events and activities; and

·       A comments section in which consumers, advocates, employers, insurers and others are encouraged submit comments on the impact of the new law.

“The cabinet is to be commended for providing this important new information resource,” said Kentucky Voices for Health executive director Jodi Mitchell.  “Thousands of Kentuckians stand to benefit from the Affordable Care Act, and having timely access to information about the implementation of the law in Kentucky will be critical to its success.  KVH had asked the governor to establish a health reform web site and worked with the cabinet on its development so we’re very pleased to see it up and running,” Mitchell added.

Detailed information about the Affordable Care Act and its positive impact on Kentucky is also available in The New Health Reform Law: What It Means for Kentuckians, an issue brief prepared last year by Kentucky Voices for Health that can be downloaded here.
