Poll Identifies Important Health
Issues Facing Kentuckians
The 2010 Kentucky Health Issues Poll surveyed Kentuckians about their perceptions of the most important health issue facing men, women and children. Kentuckians identified chronic diseases as the most important health issue, though not necessarily those which contribute most to mortality in the Commonwealth. Death due to chronic diseases, including those identified in the KHIP, can be reduced by eating right, exercising and avoiding smoking.
The KHIP found that:

3 adults identified cancer as the most important health issue for men. Research
shows that heart disease was the leading cause of death in

Around 1 in 6
women identified cancer as their most important health issue and leading cause
of death.

Obesity (29%),
diabetes (9%), and cancer (8%) were identified as the most important health
