The Courier-Journal Reports on Medicaid Stop Smoking Funds

The Courier-Journal reports on the $1.5 million appropriation included in the recently-passed Kentucky state budget to fund smoking cesscation services in the Medicaid program.  Kentucky had previously been one of only five states without such coverage.  When matched with federal Medicaid funds, the Commonwealth will have approximately $11 million availble to help Medicaid recipients stop smoking.

Kentucky Voices for Health members Amy Barkley, of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and Tonya Chang, with the American Heart Association are both quoted in the June 12 news story, which can be read here.
